Amgad Elmahdi

Dr. Amgad Elmahdi is the Head of the Middle East Region at the Green Climate Fund, where he leads strategic engagement with governments and partners across the region to develop and deliver transformational climate investment programmes. He previously served as the fund’s global water sector lead, shaping its global water investment strategy and overseeing one of the world's largest climate finance portfolios for water security. With more than 30 years of international experience across climate finance, water security, agriculture, and sustainable development, Elmahdi has worked with governments, multilateral development banks, UN agencies, and the private sector in over 40 countries across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Elmahdi is an internationally recognized expert in climate finance, water resilience, and nature-based solutions and has authored more than 120 scientific and policy publications.
